After a first period relatively dominated by the locals but poor in chances, the 22 players returned with more intentions after the break. Croatia opened the scoring through Borna Sosa (49th), who deceived Schmeichel with a flat left foot, following a corner. Having opened the scoring, Luka Modric’s teammates got two new chances. Ivan Perisic failed to make the break on the hour mark (58′) by narrowly missing the target on a free kick, then Schmeichel repelled a nice curling shot from Modric (64′).
Eriksen’s jewel will have been useless
The match then escalated. First, the Danish captain, Christian Eriksen, equalized with a sublime shot in the skylight (77th), at the entrance to the surface, and allowed his team to temporarily keep the lead of the group. But two minutes later (79th), Rennais Lovro Majer, who had just entered the game, gave Croatia the advantage with a powerful cross shot from the left. A last Danish opportunity (90th + 2nd) failed to tip the score again, without success.
The Croats will travel to Austria on Sunday evening (8:45 p.m.) while the Danes will host the Blues for the last day of the Nations League group stage. A final day which promises to be decisive since it will make it possible to decide between the Croatian and Danish selections, currently only one point apart, with a view to a place in the Final Four.
