« Courageous, attacking and intense football », the promises of Igor Tudor to Marseille fans

This Tuesday, the new OM coach Igor Tudor was officially presented to the press. Accompanied by its president, Pablo Longoria, the Croatian detailed the main lines of his game project.

Just hours after leading his first training session with his new players, Igor Tudor was officially introduced as OM coach on Tuesday at a press conference.

« I know all the players, I watched all the games last season »

Praised by its president Pablo Longoria, present at his side, the 44-year-old Croatian was asked about his first ideas for playing with the Olympian club, not without recalling, first of all, the notoriety of Olympique de Marseille. « Everyone knows OM, at world level. I’ve talked about past greatness, but today there is a great team, which finished second in Ligue 1 last season. I know all the players, I watched all the games last season… We will be able to do a good job. »

« Building courageous, attacking and intense football »

This work, precisely, Igor Tudor sketched the contours. « If I had to describe what I want to put in place, I would talk about rhythm, intensity, running without the ball… I want to build courageous, attacking football, not just based on defence. As recalled President Longoria, I want people who come to this marvelous stadium that is the Vélodrome not to come out disappointed and to be able to have fun (…) I don’t believe in English, French, Italian football, etc. I believe in a coach who brings his ideas of football to the championship, who chooses players who are suitable. Bravery is to manage to find this balance (…) You always have to win, the supporters have a lot of expectations but it’s done step by step. A great training session, a great match… and it will be a great season. »

To support him in his ambition, Tudor confirmed that Mauro Camoranesi would be his right arm and that three other members would join him to compose his staff.

Recruits expected at OM to face a busy season

Guest of After Foot on Sunday on RMC, Hellas Verona midfielder Adrien Tameze had leaked some leads on the methods of the new Olympian coach. « He’s bloodthirsty, someone who is hungry, who always wants more (…) He asks a lot of his players, his team. It’s an almost constant all-terrain pressing. It allows you to win a lot of games. We won a lot of games against big guys last season. The game system helped us a lot (…) When he manages to find his game system, his key players, he doesn’t don’t change too much. Afterwards, it’s true that OM are playing in the Champions League next season. There will be a lot of games. We know that it’s going to be a special season with the World Cup. He’s going to have to use a little more than its workforce ».

If he did not decide on Tuesday on his priority transfer window targets (Mertens and Vecino?), the fact remains that OM should register some reinforcements by August 6 for the resumption of the championship.
