Cosafa Cup 2021: The list of winners of the tournament before this 20th edition
For the competition which takes place in Nelson Mandela Bay from July 6 to 18, we present in this article the winners of this coveted tournament in southern Africa. Zimbabwe, six times winner (record), is drawn alongside Senegal, guest country from West Africa, during the group stages of the historic 20th edition of the Cup of the Council of Football Associations in Africa Southern (COSAFA).
The COSAFA Cup is making a comeback after the event was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is first hosted in Nelson Mandela Bay, which has been a familiar hotbed for other COSAFA competitions in recent years.
The previous 19 editions of the competition have seen great performances and incredible matches that have been enshrined in South African football folklore. But only five nations can claim to have won the coveted trophy. Zimbabwe (6 wins) leads, followed by Zambia (5), South Africa (4), Angola (3) and Namibia (1).
For this 20th edition, a tasty clash will ignite the imagination of what is undoubtedly a group of death, group B. This group includes in addition to Zimbabwe and Senegal, Mozambique and Namibia, winner of the COSAFA Cup 2015. Host South Africa in Group A also has an intriguing group that includes its neighbors Lesotho, Botswana and Eswatini.
