Contractual disagreement between Carlos Sainz and Ferrari?

Ferrari and Carlos Sainz are reportedly yet to agree on the length of the Spaniard’s potential new contract with the Scuderia.

Sainz’s current deal with Ferrari will expire at the end of this season, and all signs point to the 27-year-old having extended his relationship with the Italian team.

But according to F1-InsiderSainz wants to sign a new two-year contract with the Scuderia while the latter would prefer a one-year contract, with a unilateral option on the Madridian’s services for 2024.

It’s unclear why Ferrari wouldn’t give Sainz a two-year deal given how he’s adapted to his team since 2021 and the harmonious relationship he enjoys with team-mate Charles Leclerc.

But one explanation why Ferrari are unwilling to extend Sainz for more than a year could be that they were prepared to promote protege Mick Schumacher if the young German’s results after a three-year apprenticeship with Haas warrant such a move.

In Spain, however, news outlet AS claims a new deal between Sainz and Ferrari has been reached with an announcement expected within days, or weeks at most. It remains to be seen over how many seasons this one extends…
