Christian Eriksen, the miracle Dane of the Euro, in discussion with the English club of Brentford

Will Christian Eriksen make his comeback on the professional fields this season? According to the site « The Athletic », Brentford, current 14th in the Premier League, is in discussion with the Danish international who suffered a cardiac arrest during a Euro 2021 match last June. The English club have reportedly offered a six-month contract this season with an option for an additional year to the player free of any contract since the termination of his lease with Inter Milan.

Eriksen was forced out of the Serie A club due to medical rules in Italy which prohibit a player from playing with a heart defibrillator.

At the beginning of the month, Eriksen expressed the wish to play the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in an interview on Danish television, extracts from which were broadcast on Tuesday January 4.

« I want to play football, there’s no reason for me to stop, » the playmaker said in a lengthy interview, which aired in full later that week on Danish public broadcaster DR. “My goal is to play the World Cup in Qatar. I can come back… But do I still have to be selected, ”said the 29-year-old.

« The green light to play football again »

“They (the doctors) said it was good. So everything is stable and I feel like I’ve had the green light to play football again,” explained the player, who broke his contract with Inter Milan in December. On June 12 in Copenhagen, the former Tottenham midfielder collapsed in the middle of a match against Finland, at the opening of Euro 2021. A medical team had to perform cardiac massage on the ground in order to revive him.

Hospitalized, the player had been fitted with a pacemaker to regulate his heart rate. Eriksen resumed training in early December, mainly physical but also with the ball, taking advantage of the infrastructure of the Danish club Odense.
