Chelsea were not Timo Werner’s first choice
The German press has been unveiling in recent days several revelations about the transfer of Timo Werner to Chelsea. Indeed, the SPIEGEL First referred to an agreement with Bayern Munich when the 25-year-old striker was still under contract with Leipzig. The German media then adds that, in a Whatsapp conversation with his advisor, the German international had given priority to Manchester United in November 2019, considering the Blues only as a « Super alternative ».
Werner had even received a first offer from the Red Devils, with an annual salary of around 15 million euros. Another Big 6 club which had tried to sign the German: Liverpool. The Reds even held a secret meeting with the player and his agent at the start of 2019. Eventually, he will stay at Leipzig for an additional season before signing with Chelsea for the next five seasons.
