Chelsea revive but worried about Reece James

Chelsea, who had not won for five league games, won 2-0 against Bournemouth on Tuesday evening. But the London club lost Reece James, who was returning from injury.

The last success dated back to October 16. Chelsea, who remained on three defeats and two draws in the Premier League, returned to victory on Tuesday. Thanks to goals from Kai Havertz (16th) and Mason Mount (24th), the Blues won 2-0 against Bournemouth for the 15th day of the English championship.

Despite several absences (Ziyech and Kovacic resting; Fofana, Kanté, Loftus-Cheek and Chilwell injured), Chelsea showed up at Stamford Bridge with a competitive team for this resumption of the Premier League. Several globalists were present at the kickoff, such as Kalidou Koulibaly, Thiago Silva, Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic. Graham Potter also created a small event by lining up Swiss international midfielder Denis Zakaria, who had not yet had a single minute of playing time in the league this season.

In total control during the first period, Chelsea were however jostled after half-time. Bournemouth, who had only shot once in the first 45 minutes, were able to try their luck eight times in the second half.

Relapse for James

But for Chelsea, the injury exit of Reece James is the real fly in the ointment. Deprived of the World Cup in Qatar due to a knee injury, the English right side stopped after a bad support on a harmless action. He collapsed to the ground before being replaced by César Azpilicueta in the 53rd minute.

Back within a point of Liverpool, 6th, Chelsea play their next New Year’s game, away against Nottingham Forest, before a double confrontation against Manchester City, first for the account of the championship (05/01) then in the FA Cup (08/01).
