Chase Elliott on pole at the Glen

Hendrick Motorsports dominated in qualifying at Watkins Glen in the NASCAR Cup Series with pole for Chase Elliott. He is ahead of his teammate and defending champion of this event, Kyle Larson.

It’s Chase Elliott who will start from the pole tomorrow during the Go Bowling at The Glen on the Watkins Glen International. He will share the front row of the starting grid with team-mate Kyle Larson, whose car twice failed pre-practice inspection. The defending champion loses his car leader for the whole weekend.

Condemned to victory if he wants to be in the playoffs, Michael McDowell will start from third place ahead of another Hendrick Motorsports driver, William Byron. Tyler Reddick and AJ Allmendinger will be on the third row. Chris Buescher, rookie Austin Cindric, Daniel Suárez and Kyle Busch complete the top 10.

However, Kyle Busch will start from the back of the pack for an engine change made after the qualifying session. Christopher Bell’s team also changed the V8 following a breakage during testing. The Joe Gibbs Racing drivers will therefore be relegated to the back of the pack at the start of tomorrow’s event.

In the fight for the last qualifying spot for the playoffs, Ryan Blaney and Martin Truex Jr. will start from the thirteenth row of the starting grid.

For his debut in the NASCAR Cup Series, Kimi Räikkönen sets the twenty-seventh fastest time in qualifying.
