CFM – MLS: CFM exercises permanent transfer option on Joaquin Torres

MONTREAL – Joaquin Torres is here to stay. CF Montreal awarded a two-season contract, with two additional option years, to the Argentine midfielder on Thursday.

The move confirms at the same time that the Montreal club exercised the permanent transfer option of Torres, who had joined

to the team on loan from Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys last February.

CF Montreal head coach Wilfried Nancy also seemed very happy to be able to count on the services of the little Argentinian for a few more seasons, even if he admits that Torres will have to refine his game further.

“Joaquin, his most important axis of progression will have to be at the level of decision-making in the last third. He has some interesting qualities, he’s an atypical player, because he likes to pick up speed on the first sequences, and he has good passing quality, but he has to use it a little more. He is a player on the wrong foot, who likes to go against the grain of the opposition, ”Nancy first mentioned in videoconference.

As to what motivated him to accept CF Montreal’s contract offer, Torres spoke of his love for his adopted city, but also his future prospects with the club.

“The option in the contract was raised by the club, and I personally like the city. I feel very good there. And I have fun playing. All of these factors played into my decision to stay here for the long term, ”he said through an interpreter.

In his first season in MLS, the 24-year-old Argentine scored four goals and collected five assists in 24 games, including 18 starts.
