CFM: Ismaël Koné would no longer leave for Sheffield United
After persistent rumors about a transfer on Thursday afternoon, it seems that Ismaël Koné will no longer go to Sheffield United in the second division in England.
The 20-year-old CF Montreal midfielder was seen as a replacement in Sander Berge’s possible move to Belgium’s Brugge club. However, everything suggests that the latter would remain with Sheffield United, which would mean that Koné would not join the English team.
Koné is at the heart of talks over a potential transfer, having admitted to being approached by Norwich City earlier this summer. In 22 games this season with CF Montreal, Koné has scored two goals and three assists.
However, the only concrete action that was taken against him on Thursday was a fine from the MLS Disciplinary Committee.
The 20-year-old midfielder was found guilty of failing to leave the field within a reasonable time after he was shown a red card in the game between CF and the Chicago Fire last Saturday.
The amount of the penalty was not disclosed.
Before receiving the red card against the Fire in the 45th minute, he managed the first goal of the game with a curled shot at the far post. It was his second goal of the campaign in the Garber circuit.
Due to his red card against the Fire, Koné was not in uniform during his team’s 1-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday at Saputo Stadium. Koné and his teammates will return to action on Sunday to face Toronto FC in the Queen City.
