CF Montreal midfielder Ismaël Koné fined by MLS

MONTREAL — Ismaël Koné, young star of CF Montreal, was at the center of rumors as the transfer window concluded Thursday evening in England.

However, the only concrete action that was taken against him on Thursday was a fine from the MLS Disciplinary Committee.

The 20-year-old midfielder was found guilty of failing to leave the field within a reasonable time after he was shown a red card in the game between CF and the Chicago Fire last Saturday.

The amount of the penalty was not disclosed.

Due to his red card against the Fire, Koné was not in uniform during his team’s 1-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday at Saputo Stadium. Koné and his teammates will return to action on Sunday to face Toronto FC in the Queen City.

The Montrealer emerged during the 2022 season of the Montreal club. In MLS, he started 15 times and took the field 21 times. He donned the Bleu-blanc-noir jersey for the first time on February 23 during a Concacaf Champions League duel against Santos Laguna – a match in which he rocked the ropes.

Before receiving the red card against the Fire in the 45th minute, he managed the first goal of the game with a curled shot at the far post. It was his second goal of the campaign in the Garber circuit.
