CF Montreal fares in expansion draft
Charlotte FC proceeded, Tuesday evening, to its draft process for the expansion that will see the light of day in Major League Soccer (MLS) for the 2022 season and in doing so, has spared CF Montreal.
Thus, the players who will take charge of Charlotte are striker Orrin McKinze Gaines II (Austin FC) as well as defenders Anton Walkes (Atlanta United) and Joseph Mora (DC United).
Full-back Tristan Blackmon (Los Angeles FC) was also picked by the newcomers, but they immediately traded him to the Vancouver Whitecaps for $ 350,000 in 2022 and $ 125,000 in 2023.
Forward Ismael Tajouri-Shradi (New York City FC) suffered the same fate, taking over as LAFC manager in return for $ 400,000 in 2022.
The new arrivals had the choice to select five players from among the teams on the circuit who were not victims of the expansion which brought Austin FC to the Garber circuit, namely the Los Angeles Galaxy, the Nashville SC, the Reds. New York Bulls, Orlando City SC and the San Jose Earthquakes.
The list of protected players for each formation was made public on Monday. During the selection session, the leaders of Charlotte FC had three minutes per choice.
