The Carolina Hurricanes reduced the score against defending champions Tampa Bay after their 3-2 (ap) victory Thursday night on the ice at the Lightning. They are only led 2-1 in the series. The Boston Bruins, for their part, regained control against the New York Islanders by also winning after extra time (2-1).

Carolina is recovering. After losing the first two games of the series at home, the Hurricanes found color by winning on the ice of Tampa Bay (3-2 after extra time), Thursday night in Game 3. It was not until the second period to see the score settle and we can say that it was explosive, with no less than four goals in total in this period which saw the two teams go through all the emotions. Carolina first quickly led thanks to a goal from Brett Pesce (26th) on a long-distance missile. Two minutes later, Sebastian Aho worsened the score and scored his sixth goal in the play-offs, after a duel won against the goalkeeper (28th). But the defending champion has resources and he didn’t wait long to fight back. As a symbol, it is also the two best scorers of Tampa Bay who took care of it, with first Brayden Point to reduce the mark (29th) then Alex Killorn (38th) to equalize for the Thunder. After perfect equality at the end of regulation time, the two teams found themselves in extra time, and Carolina was the strongest. First thanks to an important save by their goalkeeper Petr Mrazek, then thanks to the goal of Jordan Staal (68th), on the lookout after a deflected shot from his teammate Aho.

Boston regains the advantage

On the Eastern side, the Bruins resumed their march forward. After being joined in the series by the Islanders in Game 2, the Boston franchise is once again leading the way. The Massachusetts players also started the game very well thanks to a goal from Craig Smith (6th), before then keeping their clean sheet for two full periods. New York was able to count on the tenacity of Mathew Barzal, rewarded after three attempts (55th). A late equalizer which also sent the two teams into overtime. Boston’s top scorer in these play-offs Bradley Marchand, who had just entered the game, scored the winning goal from a distance shot (66th).
