Carlos Alcaraz talks about the importance of working out in the gym.

Rising Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz is only 18 years old but he already appears to be one of the most physically dominant players on the circuit. Alcaraz, who is currently ranked 19th in the world, his career best, works hard on the training ground, but also in the gym.

Alcaraz’s rapid improvement is well documented and the power he plays with is one of the most impressive things about him. Alcaraz says gym hours are extremely important to him, as he stresses that being well prepared is the key to success.

“My team and I know how important it is to be physically strong,” said Alcaraz. « It’s something we knew I needed to improve a lot. We focused a lot on that during pre-season.

I am very happy. It gives me more confidence. I’m more likely to keep my level high for a three or four hour match against top players. I enjoy the gym.

I focused on each part of the body. I focus 100% on the work, and especially on the legs. Its very important »

Alcaraz happy to be back in Indian Wells

Alcaraz made his Indian Wells debut last year, but his debut was less than memorable as he was beaten by Andy Murray when he entered the tournament.

Alcaraz, who again benefited from a first-round pass at Indian Wells, he started his campaign by facing Mackenzie McDonald in the second round and he will play today against Gael Monfils.

« It’s unbelievable. If you remember last year I lost my first match [contre Andy Murray]. I’m enjoying every second here in Indian Wells. It’s an amazing place and I’m really happy to be back.

I’m all the happier because I’m playing very well, but the first game of every tournament is always difficult. »
