Canada and USA eliminated from Olympic hockey tournament in Beijing

Waiting for the final between Canada and the United States on Thursday (from 5:10 a.m.), Finland won the bronze medal of the women’s tournament by dominating Switzerland (4-0) on Wednesday. After a balanced start to the match, Finnish player Viivi Vainikka opened the scoring midway through the first period.

The second half, much more closed, left the suspense intact, before in the third half, a defensive error by Switzerland well exploited by Susanna Tapani then a third goal by Nelli Laitinen gave a definitive lead to the Finland. In the last minute of the match, Michelle Karvinen increased the gap with a final achievement.

The Finns won their fourth medal in the discipline, all in bronze, after those obtained at the Games of 1998, 2010 and 2018.
