CAN 2021: Cameroon in favor of full stadiums

Questioned by the secretary general of the African Football Confederation on the health situation linked to Covid-19 and the health measures to be taken for CAN 2021, the Cameroonian sports minister indicated that his country plans to make the CAN TotalEnergies 2021 festive and popular. .

The 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, which will be played in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6, 2022, will be with the public. This is indeed information contained in the correspondence of the Cameroonian Minister of Sports, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, who responded to the arrests of the Secretary General of CAF, Véron Mosengo-Omba, in relation to the health situation and the measures to be taken to supporters, on the sidelines of this period marked by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Cameroonian sports boss said his country was aiming for a 100% stadium filling gauge. However, spectators must present a health pass. This proposal from the Cameroonian government aims to make this CAN 2021 festive and popular. It must be said that it remains as a proposal awaiting validation from the umbrella of African football.

The will of the Cameroonian government

“Regarding this aspect (Covid), the Government’s policy led by the Minister of Public Health aims to guarantee a filling level of 100% on the basis of the establishment of a health pass required for spectator access to the stages.
This pass will consist of a COVID-19 diagnostic test (TDR) valid over a period of 48 hours for unvaccinated people and for people with a complete vaccination schedule, this validity will be reduced to seven (07) days.
For this purpose, spectators must pre-register on the dedicated online platform, before going to screening / vaccination / ticket sales sites set up in sufficient quantity throughout the competition period.
Finally, the health pass will be checked before spectator access to the stadiums either by smartphone or by secure paper, it being understood that the participants (players, referees and officials, etc.) having to access zones 1 and 2 will be tested by PCR and the results available within 24 hours. The laboratories concerned are known.
All these health provisions aim to make CAN TotalEnegies, Cameroon 2021 popular and festive, in compliance with anti-COVID-19 protocols. »We can read in a correspondence addressed to CAF. «
