Brock Purdy’s injury: Who is the 49ers backup QB?
We take a look at the 49ers backup QB behind Brock Purdy for the NFC Championship game against the Eagles to see who comes in if Purdy is injured.
Brock Purdy was the sent angel to the San Francisco 49ers this year. When injuries deprived Trey Lance of his position at the start of the season, Jimmy Garoppolo took over. But when Jimmy G was also injured, it was Purdy, Mr. Irrelevant of the 2022 NFL Draft, who came in.
He was simply undefeated as a starter and led the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game.
But against the Eagles in that game, Purdy was hit in the arm while throwing and was reportedly injured. Fans then wondered about the 49ers backup QB and who will be behind Purdy in the playoffs.
Who is the 49ers backup QB behind Brock Purdy?
Josh Johnson, a longtime NFL veteran and 36-year-old reserve quarterback, is the 49ers backup. He was signed in December following Garoppolo’s injury.
Speaking of Garoppolo, fans were hoping he would be available as a backup for the NFC Championship Game, but he couldn’t be released. If San Francisco made it to the Super Bowl, the hope is that Jimmy G is healthy.
