Brazil sanctions its players in the Premier League

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) today called on FIFA to prevent eight of the Brazilian players who play in the English league from playing over the weekend as a punishment.

Due to measures to fight the covid-19 pandemic, Roberto Firmino, Fabinho and Alisson (Liverpool), Ederson and Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City), Raphinha (Leeds United), Thiago Silva (Chelsea) and Fred (Manchester United) yet summoned, failed to appeal to Brazil. Because, they must undergo a mandatory quarantine of 10 days in a hotel on their return to England.

For the same reason, Richarlison d’Everton was also absent from the Selecao reunion. But the CBF chose not to include the striker in the roster because the club allowed his participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, in which Brazil won gold. The CBF invokes an article of the FIFA regulations, according to which players who do not make themselves available for their national teams may be penalized for a period of five days without playing.

The nine players who remained in England had been called up for three matches in the South American qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup.
