The Florida Panthers managed to get their hands on the NHL’s player of the hour last year. Matthew Tkachuk completely transformed the club and gave the organization the character it needed to take it to the next level.
I say the player of the hour since he has become, more than ever, a model. Even though he didn’t win MVP or even the Stanley Cup, he’s a benchmark.
The proof: how many players combined said they resembled the Tkachuk due to their rugged style of play? Several.
So here he is signed long-term to Sunrise. He is in the same division as his brother Brady, who is the Senators captain and also signed a long-term contract with his team.
The two are therefore rain or shine in the division. That said, is there a world where they could make it rain or shine on the same NHL roster?

It is rare for two captains to be part of the same transaction. It happened when Martin St-Louis was traded to the Rangers for Ryan Callahan back in 2014.
Obviously, I don’t expect the transaction to go through. Unless Brady really pushes, but really hard? But still there…
I don’t know how much it’s Biz who fantasizes, but it seems like there are a lot of rumors like that about Brady and the Canadian market in Ottawa. He didn’t necessarily want to sign long-term in Ottawa without the title of captain…
His leadership seems to be in question…
He sometimes seems more interested in supporting his brother than supporting his own organization. I sometimes wonder how senior management perceives their player.
All in all, I wonder how tempting the idea of adding a center like Sasha Barkov might be for an Ottawa squad that didn’t progress enough last year. I don’t expect that to happen, but…
