Bought at the last minute, Salernitana can stay in Serie A

La Salernitana will finish the season in Serie A. The Italian club, whose maintenance in the first division was conditioned by its takeover, has been taken over by Daniele Iervolino, announces The Gazzetta dello Sport . While the Italian Federation had given the last Serie A a deadline until December 31, 2021 to find a new buyer on pain of exclusion, Daniele Iervolino made an offer, confirmed on Saturday by the Italian Federation, to acquire the club where evolves Franck Ribéry

« It is with great emotion that I announce that I have acquired the Salernitana 1919 », said Iervolino to The Gazzetta Dello Sport, specifying that he « Would do anything to maintain [le club] in Serie A ”. The agreement reached gives the Campanian club 45 more days to finalize the sale and ensure its presence in Serie A after mid-February.

In July 2021, the Federation validated La Salernitana’s accession to Serie A by calling on it to change owners within six months. Claudio Lotito, who owned the Salernitana until then, also holds the Lazio Rome. A practice prohibited by the Italian Federation, which does not allow a person to own two clubs in the same division.
