BOB JENKINS… THE VOICE OF THE INDY 500 AND THE INDYCAR IS DECEASED


This Wednesday morning 11 August 2021, Indianapolis Motor Speedway released bad news, sad news, with the announcement of the passing of 500-mile voice Bob Jenkins.

Bob Jenkins died in Indianapolis on Monday, August 9, 2021 at the age of 73, having been born on September 4, 1947 in Richmond, Indiana, as a result of colon cancer, which became of the brain and discovered there several years!

Since 1960 and his first discovery of the Indy 500 event, Bob has incredibly missed only two editions of the 500 miles, in 1961 and 1965.

On May 30, although greatly diminished and while fighting the disease, he received the Robin Miller Prize.

Bob Jenkins’ voice has been used in many video games and motorsport films, such as’ Kart Racer ‘,’ Days of Thunder ‘,’ Talladega Nights’: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

Bob Jenkins retired in 2012 to take care of his wife Pam, herself suffering from brain cancer and who died on October 25.

In a recent interview, Bob Jenkins said:

“I had colon cancer in 1983 and survived it, and with God’s help and that of my beloved running fans, I’m going to make it happen. « 

Bob Jenkins also died of brain cancer on August 9, 2021, at the age of 73.
