Boater dies off Seignosse beach


Significant search and rescue resources were immediately activated, including the French Navy’s Dauphin helicopter, stationed in La Rochelle.

One of the two people managed to get free and was picked up by the lifeguards from the beach post, while the other yachtsman remained stuck in the cabin.

At 4:07 p.m., the Dauphin helicopter saw the second man leaving the cabin. The victim, obviously unconscious, was immediately picked up by a lifeguard from the beach post who brought him back to the shore to carry out first aid while awaiting the arrival of the medical team.

At 4:36 p.m., a helicopter from the Bayonne gendarmerie dropped off a team from SAMU 64. Unfortunately, they could only confirm the death of the victim at 4:40 p.m.

Faced with this tragedy, the maritime prefecture of the Atlantic reiterates the warning formulated yesterday as to the dangers represented by the wind and the strong swell present since last Saturday on our coast and recommends to boaters and water sports enthusiasts to postpone their outings. until the return to milder weather conditions.
