Benzema has ‘no fear’ ahead of PSG clash in Champions League

Determined to win a fifth Champions League with Real Madrid, Karim Benzema does not feel worried before facing PSG in the round of 16. He confided in this shock to come in the columns of France Football.

It takes (much) more to worry him. In a long interview published this Saturday by France Football, Karim Benzema confides that he approaches with serenity the round of 16 of the Champions League to come against PSG (February 15 and March 9 on RMC Sport). « If you want to go to the end, you have to beat all the teams, underlines the captain of Real Madrid. Afterwards, we would have liked another draw, that’s for sure. PSG are among the favorites but there is no fear . It’s two football matches. We want to qualify, we want to go all the way. »

Already winner of the C1 four times (2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018), the former Lyonnais is aiming for a fifth European title at the age of 34, which would allow him to do as well as Cristiano Ronaldo, Alfredo Di Stéfano or even Paolo Maldini. The record for victories in the most prestigious of European competitions is still held by the Spaniard Francisco Gento, who made Real’s heyday in attack in the 1950s and 60s with six European Cups won.

Benzema will come to Paris « to win »

Not disturbed by the idea of challenging a French club, Benzema clearly displays his ambitions: « With Real, I came back many times, it’s nothing new. And my supporters in France watch me every weekend. I don’t need to come to France and show anything. But in any case, when we go to France to come and play this match against Paris, it will be to win. »

« It’s not the same, they don’t have the same age, they don’t have the same experience, » he adds when asked to compare the attacking power of Real and the Parisian attack, which should logically be composed of Neymar, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé for this double confrontation which promises a lot.

In the meantime, Benzema will have the opportunity this Sunday to enrich an already well-stocked list with the Spanish Super Cup final to be played against Athletic Bilbao, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (7:30 p.m.). In great shape, he scored in the previous round against Barça and has 23 goals this season in all competitions (in 26 games).
