BE-NE-LEAGUE – The ex-Fribourgeois Janis Sprukts coached in Belgium!

A little too old (41 years old) to experience the great Latvian adventure of the last World Cup, but one of the major players in the history of local hockey: Janis Sprukts is still active in the ice hockey world. It is true that the former player of Liiga, NHL (Florida), KHL, Gotteron and Martigny (in 2014/2015) had stopped his career in 2020 and we had lost sight of him a little.

Here he reappears on a transfer sheet as … coach. The former center player of 115 kg (!) found himself at the head of the Belgian club Mechelen Golden Sharks, finishing in 7th place in the regular season in this championship (Be-Ne-League) bringing together the best teams Belgians and Dutch.

It should be noted in passing that he could have done much better if his team, after a decent start to the championship, had not conceded… 14 consecutive losses to end the season. So here he is again on the market, his contract has not been renewed by the Malinois club.
