Basketball: from Lot-et-Garonne to the NBA Draft, the completely crazy career of Ousmane Dieng

Will Ousmane Dieng be the next French basketball player to be drafted into the famous NBA championship next June? This would be a historic first for Lot-et-Garonne basketball. Indeed, no player from our department has ever experienced such an adventure on the other side of the Atlantic.

It is in any case the completely crazy story that is writing, with minute, the young Ousmane Dieng, « the one who started basketball by watching his father in Villeneuve-sur-Lot ». He will also be one of the youngest French people to be drafted into the NBA championship.

Since his first license in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Ousmane Dieng has experienced a rapid rise, suggesting enormous abilities. After Lot-et-Garonne, he continued his studies at JSA Bordeaux before joining the federal center at INSEP. Ousmane Dieng is a hard worker. In addition to the collective sessions, he inflicts important work sessions on himself « including when he comes to recharge his batteries with his relatives in Lot-et-Garonne ». His stats in the National 1 championship are more than flattering (12.6 points at 43%, 5.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists).

This already promising course allowed him to evolve in the young French teams. In 2019, he was notably vice-champion of Europe with the U16s in Italy.

A first pro contract in the Australian league

With an extraordinary physique (especially with his 2m08), the winger chose to join Oceania to join the Australian professional league. The Lot-et-Garonnais has joined the New Zealand Breakers franchise, a formation from Auckland. A first season full of enrichments especially with an acclamation which turned out to be somewhat complicated. But, with selflessness, he did not let go, ending the season with soaring statistics, in particular with 8.9 points and 3.1 rebounds (at 40% success rate).

Already followed for some time by various recruiters, Ousmanie Dieng has decided to take an additional step and register for the 2022 NBA Draft. He used his Australian adventure to best prepare for the sequel.

The comments are rave about the winger presented « as the most popular Frenchman of the 2003 generation ». Some American media make it one of the surprises of the next Draft which will take place in June. Some even see him in the Top 10 of this next game where the franchises are betting their future on young hopefuls. Some even predict that Lot-et-Garonnais is « announced from the first round ».

Already in the USA

Ousmane Dieng left New Zealand to join the United States where he will take part in a few days in the « work-outs », his training camps where the future stars of tomorrow are carefully scrutinized by the scouts (Editor’s note: scouts) of NBA franchises.

And as since the beginning of his career, the young Dieng does not ignite keeping his head on his shoulders to put the odds on his side.
