Barclays record deal to sponsor English Women’s Super League

Barclays have signed a new three-year contract to sponsor the English Women’s Super League as part of a record investment in women’s sport in Britain, the English Football Association (FA) announced on Wednesday. Banking group Barclays will invest more than 35 million euros in British women’s football from 2022 to 2025, doubling the investment that existed when it became the title sponsor of the Women’s Super League in 2019.

Barclays will also become the first title sponsor of the Second Division Championship starting in the 2022-2023 season for three years. “Barclays has played a pivotal role in the growth of women’s and girls’ football so it is great news that they are committing to a new record investment in the Girls and Girls Pyramid through 2025, said Kelly Simmons, director of women’s professional football for the FA. The English Football Championship plays a central role in the continued development of the pyramid structure and the credible history and football association of Barclays will make the league even stronger. «

This year, the BBC and Sky Sports struck a three-year, multi-million euro deal to broadcast Women’s Super League matches from the 2021-2022 season.

The Women’s Premier Division began as an eight-team semi-professional league in 2011 and is now a fully professional 12-team division.
