Romain Grosjean, who is making a remarkable debut this year in the IndyCar championship with the Dale Coyne team, will ride next season for Andretti Autosport, the latter, much more prestigious team announced on Friday.

« We are delighted to welcome Romain to the Andretti Autosport family, » said owner and president Michael Andretti, son of Mario who was notably Formula 1 world champion in 1978.

“He already had an impressive CV before coming to IndyCar and seeing what he was able to do in his rookie season (rookie) has been exciting to say the least. His great experience in motorsport will be beneficial to the team, ”he added.

Promotion

It is a real promotion offered to Grosjean, who will therefore continue his American adventure, after a decade spent in Formula 1, punctuated at the end of last year by an impressive accident which he suffered in Bahrain.

Andretti Autosport’s Indycar single-seaters are powered by Honda and the team has won the IndyCar championship four times, the last time in 2012 with the American Ryan Hunter-Reay, whom Grosjean will replace.

“I am delighted to join Andretti Autosport and drive the DHL Honda N.28 next season. It is a great honor to join such a great team. Everyone in motorsport knows the name Andretti. I am super happy and proud to ride with the team. I hope we will succeed together, ”commented Grosjean.

500 Miles from Indianapolis

Unlike this year, when he preferred not to participate in the oval races – before finally trying it at the end of August at the Gateway GP where he finished 14th – the 35-year-old Franco-Swiss will compete in the entire championship. and therefore the prestigious Indianapolis 500 Miles.

Two days before the end of the current championship, scheduled for Long Beach in California, Grosjean has a record of three podiums, including two second places. It remains on a third place won last week at Laguna Seca, after a good comeback.
