A typical system of American closed leagues
In American leagues like MLS, the standings are divided into two conferences: East and West. The best teams compete in the play-offs, in order to determine the grand final between the winner of the East and the West. But no team goes down to the second division – the famous closed league -, and without promotion or relegation, the development of the League is simpler from a financial point of view because concentrated on the same teams each season.
