At 14, he signed his first professional contract in MLS

Axel Kei, an American striker aged just 14, became the youngest sportsman to sign a contract with a professional club in the United States, committing this Friday with Real Salt Lake.

Trained at the Real Salt Lake Academy, Kei signed a two-year contract, a fortnight after celebrating his 14th birthday. The previous record for earliness in this area was held by Freddy Adu. The Ghanaian-born striker was 153 days older than Kei when he joined DC United in 2004.

Kei was 13 years old, the youngest player in the history of an American professional club, all sports combined, on the occasion of his debut for the Real Salt Lake development team, in second division.
