Astonishing McMurtry smashes records at Goodwood

The Goodwood Festival, held annually in Sussex, traditionally celebrates motoring and motorsport.

Many manufacturers took the opportunity to unveil their latest innovations, including the electric Volvo Polestar 5 and its 900 horsepower, or the Ford Electric Supervan and its mind-blowing 2,000 horsepower.

Among these vehicles, the McMurtry Speirling could act as a toy, as its proportions are reduced, even disproportionate. Looking straight out of a cartoon, the McMurtry is a small, all-electric single-seater prototype.

If its technical data has not been fully revealed, the vehicle has a power of 1,000 horsepower, with two electric motors placed at the front and at the rear.

Above all, the McMurtry has a suction system, which helps to empty the air between the track and the car (whose lower body is partitioned by two side skirts). The result: phenomenal grip, and support of up to 2,000 kg, which allows it to be literally glued to the track, even at the lowest speeds.

As for its acceleration, it is breathtaking since the 0-100 km/h is completed in just 1.5 seconds!

Lined up at the start of the prestigious Goodwood hill climb event, as part of the Festival of Speed, the McMurtry simply broke the track record by setting a time of 39 »08 on the 1.86 long course. km, with British driver Max Chilton at the wheel.

The latter thus broke the old record set by the Volkwagen ID.R prototype in 2019, which had completed the course in 39 »90 with Romain Dumas.
