ASJ Soyaux coach is delighted to face FC Nantes in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. In the meantime, six of its players are affected by the Covid. D1’s meeting against Olympique Lyonnais had to be postponed.
The opening match of Matchday 12 of Division 1 was scheduled for Friday January 14. The meeting had to be postponed due to cases of Covid within the Charente workforce: six players contracted the virus. The match will therefore be rescheduled at a later date.
ASJ Soyaux remains on a home defeat in the league against Montpellier (0-1) on December 12, and occupies 10th place in the standings ahead of Saint-Étienne and Issy-les-Moulineaux.
(Match scheduled for January 30, 2022 at 2:30 p.m.)
The players of ASJ Soyaux inherit a favorable draw, at least on paper, with the reception of FC Nantes, a formation classified all the same 3rd in D2. The Sojaldiciennes will however have to be wary of the Canaries, scorers from Guingamp, D1 team in the previous round.
For the coach, Dragan Cvetkovic: « It is an honor to receive a historic and prestigious club, especially a team to be taken very seriously because it is almost at the head of its championship (Editor’s note: At one point from the two co-leaders, Metz and Lille) . »
For their part, the Charentaises eliminated Sunday the US Orléans Loiret (D2) with a score of 2 goals to 1, for their return to competition after two weeks of truce.
The great shock of the round of 16 will pit PSG against Olympique Lyonnais. The two flagship French clubs met in the final in 2020, resulting in OL’s success on penalties. Lyon is therefore the last club to win the competition, the 2021 edition having been stopped due to the pandemic.
