Sports business is bad, very bad at georgetown for many months. Last night on their floor, the Hoyas indeed lost at home against Villanova (57-73), thus recording a 25th loss in a row (!) in the Big East conference, straddling this season of course, last season, absolutely nightmarish… and the previous one again!
It’s very simple: the program coached by Patrick Ewing has not won a game against an opponent from the Big East since March 2, 2021, almost 22 months!
A slow and painful descent into hell for this once legendary program, which led to the inevitable, after last night’s defeat: a statement that looked like a final warning to the former iconic pivot of the Knicks, from the director of the Georgetown Athletic Department (5 wins and 11 losses this season, including 5 losses in as many games in the Big East Conference).
» We are fully aware that the current period is frustrating for our team and our fans. said Lee Reed. » Coach Ewing understands the imperative to get the program back on track, and no one is more dedicated to the task than him. »
If he certainly has immunity for a few more weeks, due to his status as the greatest player in college, Patrick Ewing is therefore certainly under pressure, and could not finish the current exercise if the start of the new year is not marked by significant progress.
» I am the coach of this team until my superiors decide otherwise. We were dominated tonight. What we’re going to do now is get up. And we’ll see where we are in the next game » he declared then after the defeat of last night, cornered by the questions of the journalists about the press release published by his superior. » There are black streaks in all sports. I am a very proud person, Georgetown University also bases its pride on its sports teams. We don’t want to be associated with a losing streak, but that’s the case, that’s how it is. We can only continue to fight. »
