Ariège: a “successful” French football championship for firefighters in Foix

the essential
The Oise team won the first National 3 French firefighters football championship, organized in Foix from April 28 to 30. The event is a « total success » according to the organizers.

A dozen fire trucks surrounded the Jean-Surre sports complex all weekend in Foix. However, no fire broke out inside. Coming from Yonne, Somme or Aude, they transported some of the 240 participants in the first French National 3 football championship for firefighters. The last, too, for lack of a sufficient number of teams at the third and final level.

On the lawn, the players from the Oise department are the last to have raised their arms, Saturday afternoon, following their victory in the final against the Somme team (1-0). A great way to end the championship – on the 31stand all levels – organized in Foix from 28 to 30 April.

A crazy evening and only one injured

At the end, Thierry Leblanc, co-head of the sports commission of the Departmental Union of Firefighters of Ariège, was satisfied: “That’s it, it’s over. We had a great time. For three days, we thought we would have rain but no, everything went well. Last night, we had a crazy time, especially with the guys from Corse-du-Sud, and at the complex everything went well. Everything was great. »

The « only downside », raised by the organizer of the event wearing a cap, the injury of a player from the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Following a broken elbow and fibula, he had to be transported to Chiva. During the awards ceremony, Christophe Brossard, president of the French firefighters football association, had a few words for him.

A « remarkable » state of mind

This incident took nothing away from the « remarkable state of mind » raised by the president, satisfied with the fair play displayed during the competition. More broadly, he felt that the championship was a « total success ». “I am happy after two years of sleep (due to Covid-19, editor’s note), he insisted. Eight teams participated for the first time and in it there are the first three. This is a good thing. »

The players also praised the good organization of Fuxéenne. It was provided by around fifty volunteer firefighters mobilized around Thierry Leblanc. Thomas, one of the twenty players of the Corse-du-Sud team, appreciated the « excellent welcome ». With his « beautiful gang », housed in a hotel in Foix, he took advantage of the « firefighter family » atmosphere. He will thus keep good memories of Fuxéen, despite a defeat in the quarter-finals after a 16-hour trip (12 hours by boat to Marseille and 4 by car to Foix).

Trips longer than 16 hours

The 30 firefighters of Mayotte spent a little more time in transport (18 hours, 11 by plane and 7 by car) to reach the prefecture of Ariège. Two of them, Anelka and Ahmed, enjoyed discovering the region and the department. They took the opportunity to share a dinner with Mahorais from Foix, Saturday evening. Something to console the favorites of the competition, defeated in the semi-finals because of what they consider to be a refereeing error. Appreciated during the awards ceremony, they left the stadium with a smile.

Not yet gone, Cédric, captain of the winning team, Oise, is thinking of returning to Ariège for a family vacation. A lover of walks at altitude, he enjoyed discovering a “beautiful department, with a beautiful setting”. The mountain, that you win.
