Apple offers the entirety of Major League Soccer (MLS) worldwide for 10 years, a 2.5 billion dollar deal?


At the end of the day, Major League Soccer and Apple formalized the signing of a 10-year global broadcasting agreement which will begin in the 2023 season.

Over the 2023-2032 cycle, Major League Soccer (MLS) has decided to partner with Apple to continue its international development. According to several American media like the Sports Business Journal or Sportico, the amount of this contract would be 250 million dollars per season, or 2.5 billion dollars over 10 years.

Apple TV App will offer the new MLS streaming service that will broadcast the entire North American soccer league on all territories, without restrictions. For the moment no price has been communicated. Select matches will be streamed for free to Apple TV+ subscribers. note that the future subscription to the MLS streaming service will be offered to franchise subscribers!

During the presentation of the contract to the media, Eddy CueVice President of Apple Services, Don GarberMLS Commissioner and Gary StevensonPresident and Managing Director of MLS Business Ventures have reiterated on several occasions that local (linear) TV broadcasters in the USA and Canada will be able to negotiate new rights and broadcast certain matches, with the rights of major broadcasters expiring in 2022. North America, the answer was less clear but the door is open for the moment on a case-by-case basis.

During this exchange, Eddy Cue clarified that “MLS is the league with the youngest fan base in North America. Having everything in one place is great for fans around the world.”

For the debut of the MLS streaming service on Apple TV, matches will be broadcast in 3 languages, English, French and Spanish. “Other languages ​​will come in the years to come, we want a global product, so…” added Gary Stevenson.
