Former Italian striker Fabrizio Miccoli received a three-and-a-half-year prison sentence in Italy for « Aggravated extortion by means of mafia method » after his appeal was dismissed by the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation. The Court therefore confirmed the sentence. According to the Italian press, his friend Mauro Lauricella, son of a mafia boss, would have helped him to recover between 12,000 euros and 20,000 euros as part of the sale of a nightclub, during his years in Palermo.
It is precisely this link with the criminal organization that the Court decided to use to reject any form of appeal and reduction of sentence. At 42, Fabrizio Miccoli has been retired from the field since 2015. Passed by Juventus, Perugia or even Benfica and Fiorentina, it is in Palermo that he especially distinguished himself between 2007 and 2013, with 81 goals in 179 matches.
It would have been preferable that he distinguished himself there only on the ground.
