The transfer windows follow and resemble each other on the football planet. While the transfer market closed Thursday evening, we see Friday morning that English clubs were still the biggest spenders, by far, over this summer period. Of the ten most expensive transfers of this transfer window, eight are to the credit of Premier League clubs.
10. Paqueta to West-Ham for €60m
The financial power of English clubs summed up in a transfer. West-Ham, 7th in the Premier League last season, took out the checkbook to buy the Brazilian from Olympique Lyonnais Lucas Paqueta for 60 million euros. An offer difficult to refuse for the French club.
9. Erling Haaland to Manchester City for €60m
The first big transfer of the summer! While the transfer window was not yet open, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City announced on May 10 that they had reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of the Norwegian star. A good deal for the Citizens since they only paid 60 million euros to afford the services of the striker while the release clause was set at 75 million euros.
8. Marc Cucurella to Chelsea for €65.3m
Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella has moved from Brighton to Chelsea, where he signed a six-year contract. Long tracked by Manchester City, the London club has finally won the day in its quest for a full-back.
7. Matthijs de Ligt to Bayern Munich for €67m
Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt, who played for Juventus Turin, joined Bayern Munich this summer. Amount of the deal: €67 million. He arrives in an already well supplied sector and will have to find a place in the middle of Pavard, Upamecano and Hernandez.
6. Alexander Isak to Newcastle for €70m
The Swedish center-forward has become the most expensive recruit in the history of Newcastle, a club bought in October 2021 by a Saudi sovereign fund. The Magpies spent 70 million euros excluding bonuses to hire the Real Sociedad striker.
5. Casemiro to Manchester United for €70.6m
After nine years at Real Madrid and having won 18 titles, including five Champions League, Casemiro has decided to try a new challenge by signing with Manchester United. The Brazilian left the Spanish club for just over 70 million euros.
4. Darwin Núñez to Liverpool for €75m
He caused a sensation last season with Benfica, especially in the Champions League. Darwin Núñez attracted the greed of the biggest European clubs and therefore chose to join Liverpool against a big check: 75 million euros.
3. Aurélien Tchouaméni to Real for €80 million
He left AS Monaco at the start of the transfer window to join the European champion club. Aurélien Tchouaméni had no shortage of suitors this summer following his excellent season with the Principality club.
2. Wesley Fofana to Chelsea for €80.5m
The case had been in the pipeline for several weeks, it finally materialized at the very end of the transfer window on Wednesday. Leicester’s French defender Wesley Fofana has signed with Chelsea for an impressive €80.5million.
1. Antony to Manchester United for €95m
The biggest transfer of the summer was made by Manchester United. Ajax Amsterdam right-winger Antony joined the Red Devils for 95 million euros. An impressive sum but in line with the last big transfers from the Dutch club.
