Egypt, Greece and Saudi Arabia. Yes, you read that right: these three countries could join forces.

A 48-team World Cup in three countries thousands of miles apart? At a time of the fight against global warming, the project may seem aberrant, and yet… Egypt, Greece and Saudi Arabia study a joint bid for the 2030 World Cup. Placed on three different continents, these countries are seriously considering competing with the two « tickets » already envisaged by Spain and Portugal on the one hand, and Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay on the other.

FIFA will decide in 2024

“The three countries are working hard. The file of the organization (of the World Cup 2030) is under study “, said the Egyptian spokesman for the Ministry of Sports and Youth, Mohammed Fawzi, to the television channel DMC. And to make the commitment that « Egypt is one of the best organizing countries » in the history of the event. However, nothing is official at this stage: no application has yet been submitted to FIFA. The organizing country or countries must be designated in 2024.
