More fear than harm for Fernando Alonso. The Spanish driver made a mistake and partially destroyed his car on Wednesday during the second day of free practice for the Indianapolis 500 Miles. The double Formula 1 world champion lost control of his vehicle when exiting a bend and hit the safety walls several times.
« The car went sideways, I took my foot off the accelerator but it wasn’t enough, I completely lost control of the car and I was already too close to the safety wall, » said he explained to the NBC television channel.
A minor accident for the pilot who was able to extract himself from his vehicle. The control examinations revealed nothing abnormal according to the organizers.
On the other hand, his orange McLaren, prepared in collaboration with Chevrolet and the Carlin Racing team, is badly damaged.

For his second participation in the mythical Indycar race, the Spaniard will probably have to participate in the official qualifications on Saturday and Sunday with the reserve car.
The 37-year-old veteran is the attraction of the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 miles which will take place on May 26. During his first participation in 2017, he played the leading roles during the race, before being forced to retire due to engine failure about twenty laps from the finish. Alonso is keen to become the second driver after Britain’s Graham Hill to win the Triple Crown of motorsport, following his successes at the Monaco Grand Prix in F1 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in endurance racing.
