All-star game: MLS stars triumph against Liga MX

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Carlos Vela scored in the third minute, Raúl Ruidiaz converted a 73rd-minute penalty and the MLS stars took the Mexican league 2-1 on Wednesday.

Vela, the dynamic Los Angeles FC striker who led MLS with 34 goals in 2019, redirected a cross from team-mate Diego Palacios with a header.

Ruidiaz doubled their lead after Carles Gil earned a penalty.

Kevin Alvarez scored the goal for the Liga MX outfit with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area.

CF Montreal central defender Kamal Miller started the match for MLS. Like most players, he played a half. Miller was the only representative of a Canadian team at the event.

Host team of the clash, Minnesota United saw one of its two players present stand out. In front of a packed house of 19,797 fans, Canadian goaltender Dayne St. Clair was named player of the game.

It was the second edition of this all-star format between the Canadian-American and Mexican championships. Last year, MLS prevailed 1-1 (3-2 pens) after a penalty session.
