Alfa Romeo Giulia (2024). Our information on the 100% electric road
At the head of Alfa Romeo since January 2021, Jean-Philippe Imparato (ex-boss of Peugeot) is in heaven. Its mission is to restore the image of the brand and will be able to count on one major novelty per year until 2027. On that date, the entire range will be 100% electric. The offensive will begin in 2022 with the launch of a compact SUV, the Tonale, then with the release of an urban SUV at the end of 2023, the Brennero (technical clone of the Peugeot 2008). Then the time will come to renew in order the Giulia, the Stelvio and the Giulietta.
Farewell to the Giorgio platform
In an interview with our English colleagues from Autoexpress, the boss confirmed that the future Giulia would be 100% electric. But he wishes to reassure the purists by stressing that « the brand will continue to prioritize the driver-centric approach and sportiness « . Adding: « We’re working on the vibe you’ll experience when driving an Alfa Romeo in 2025. On the other hand, he did not announce any technical details, thus avoiding saying that the Giorgio platform would eventually be abandoned. An open secret because, according to internal sources, the new STLA Large base is being developed on the other side of the Atlantic at Chrysler-Jeep. It will equip a Dodge in 2024 and a Jeep in 2025 in the Wagoneer family.
““The car is absolutely beautiful. So there is a future for this type of car, but it will be an electrified future. »Jean-Philippe Imparato“
The Quadrifoglio Verde goes green
In view of the sales volumes of the American brands of the Stellantis group, the Italian manufacturer was no match for the decision to choose the American technical base. The latter will be available in traction, propulsion and four-wheel drive with Nidec engines whose power may vary from 204 to 449 hp (in 400 and 800 V) depending on the version. Under the floor will be housed an ACC battery (from 101 to 118 kWh) produced in the Gigafactory in Termoli, which benefits from public aid of 600 million euros. The Stellantis group announces a maximum range of 800 km, as well as ultra-fast recharging to recover 32 km / min.
Thanks to such characteristics, Jean-Philippe Imparato ensures that the Quadrifoglio Verde sports versions will always be in the game. The Italian manufacturer can rely on the work of engineers from Dodge, which is developing the first “e-muscle car” with the prospect of 0 to 100 km swept in 2 seconds. The new Giulia will be unveiled and will go into production in 2024 with probable commercialization in 2025. Before that, the current model should undergo a little makeover in 2022.
