Alfa Romeo confirms withdrawal from Formula 1

Manufacturer Alfa Romeo has confirmed that its partnership with Sauber in Formula 1 will end at the end of the 2023 season.

Unsurprisingly, automaker Alfa Romeo will end its presence in Formula 1 when its engagement with Sauber ends at the end of 2023. The announcement comes just after Audi confirmed its entry into motorsport’s premier class from 2026 in as an engine supplier, which now leaves no doubt as to the intentions of the brand with the rings, which has still not announced which team it will power.

“Alfa Romeo announced its return to Formula 1 in 2017 with a long-term plan, and in July 2022 announced the decision to continue its partnership with Sauber also for 2023, given the promising results of the first half of the season, both in terms of performance, marketing and positive collaboration with the team.” can we read in a press release published this Friday by the Stellantis group.

“As the economic and industrial recovery of the brand will be achieved in 2022, Alfa Romeo will now assess the many opportunities on the table, and decide which will be the best to support the long-term strategy and positioning of the Brand.”

The Alfa Romeo name will therefore disappear from the paddock from 2024, when Audi should probably begin its collaboration with Sauber in the background before being much more visible from 2026…
