Alex Palou leaves Ganassi for McLaren! Or not !

Ganassi pursues Palou

The announcement of the departure of Alex Palou from Ganassi Racing for McLaren has just triggered chaos in the small world of IndyCar.

Hours after Chip Ganassi Racing announced it had activated its option to retain Alex Palou in 2023, McLaren Racing released a statement explaining that the 2021 IndyCar champion was joining the team at the end of the 2022 season. .

In the press release, it is not specified in which car Palou will be entered and the Arrow McLaren SP team is not even mentioned.

“We have always wanted to have the best talent at McLaren, and it is very exciting to be able to add Alex to this list. I’m also looking forward to seeing him driving a Formula One car as part of our TPC program alongside Pato O’Ward and Colton Herta. Alex is a very talented driver and I am happy to welcome him to the McLaren family. »

said Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren

On the side of Palou, the deal also seems very clear.

“I am very much looking forward to joining such an iconic team as McLaren. I can’t wait to be able to show what I am capable of and to see that they wear it can open me up. I also want to thank everything Chip Ganassi Racing has done for me. »

On social networks, Palou also communicated quite a bit, explaining that he was no longer satisfied with Chip Ganassi Racing and that he no longer wanted to race with this team in 2023. He also explained that he had not been consulted before the announcement that Ganassi had taken an option for next year.

A few hours later, Ganassi Racing gave a layer of it with a new press release confirming that Palou was indeed under contract with the team for the 2023 season!

The two teams therefore find themselves in a rather original situation, since the two announce that they will have Palou as a driver in 2023!
