AC Milan will start their title defense against Udinese
AC Milan will start the weekend of August 13-14 at home against Udinese in the defense of their Serie A title, after the schedule for the 2022-23 season was announced on Friday. Stefano Pioli’s players will then meet clubs Atalanta, Bologna and Sassuolo before hosting the first Milan derby of the season against Inter on the weekend of September 3-4. After 10 years of scarcity, Milan won its 19th scudetto last season on the 38th and final day, with 86 points against 84 for its great rival, Inter.
On October 23, Silvio Berlusconi, former owner of AC Milan, will return to San Siro with his new club, AC Monza, just promoted to Serie A. Between 1986 and 2017, Berlusconi and his right arm Adriano Galliani won 29 trophies with Milan, including five European Cups, before selling the club to a Chinese investor, Li Yonghong. The latter, unable to repay the club’s debts, was then forced to sell Milan to the American investment fund Elliott. Another American fund, RedBird, should take over this summer.
Like the other major championships, Serie A will take a break in the fall, the time of the World Cup in Qatar (November 21 – December 18). The 15th day will take place on November 13, the 16th on January 4. The 38th and final day of the 2022/23 season is scheduled for June 4, 2023, according to the schedule unveiled by the Italian league
