In office since 2019, the legend of the Italian club, in which he has spent his entire career, is leaving his position as Technical Director. In Italy, the news had been anticipated since the beginning of the week. Maldini’s departure is said to have been accelerated by Milan owner Gerry Cardinale, who cites mistrust of the transfer window budget and poor league results. In Serie A, AC Milan finished in fourth position, two points behind third place.

On its website, the club writes: “AC Milan announces that Paolo Maldini is ending his duties with the club, effective June 5, 2023. We thank him for his years of service, which contributed to the return to the Champions League and the victory of the Scudetto in 2021/22. His day-to-day functions will be carried out by a team working closely with the first team manager, who will report to the managing director.
