A US media names the best French of the Games, Fournier and Gobert snubbed!

Widely hailed for their performances on Japanese soil, Evan Fournier and Rudy Gobert have fully assumed their status as stars of the France group at the Olympic Games. However, an American media has made another French player the best of the competition among the Blues!

Respectively eliminated in the first and second rounds of the NBA playoffs, they had very little time to regain energy and energy before meeting with their compatriots. Evan Fournier and Rudy Gobert were nevertheless able to bounce back perfectly from their failures in the league. The two French stars were indeed irreproachable during the Olympic tournament, concluded with a beautiful silver medal.

Used in the role of scorer that he masters so well, the new Knicks player has honored his rank, with several welcome offensive cards. At the same time, the backbone of Jazz has reigned supreme in the racket, while remaining imperial in defense. Nevertheless, according to Timothy Sevilleja de ClutchPoints, none of them would deserve the honorary title of best French player in the competition passed by the NBA!

The French have a long list of candidates for this title: Evan Fournier (team top scorer), Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot and Vincent Poirier are among others eligible. Rudy Gobert also has a serious record as a member of the tournament’s All-Star Five. Despite this, it was Fenerbahce player Nando De Colo (former San Antonio Spurs) who turned out to be the Blues’ major player.

More than the exploits of Fournier in attack, or the always so dissuasive presence of Gobert in defense, the versatility and the relative sobriety of Nando De Colo caught the eye of the journalist. Remained for two seasons in the NBA, between 2012 and 2014, the latter has shown to American observers that since that time he has made good progress in his game. Sevilleja thus justifies his choice to make him the elected official on the Blue side.

The 34-year-old veteran led his team in assists with 6 offerings per game, while hanging on to second place in the top scorer standings behind Fournier (15.4 points). He also placed second in rebounds behind Gobert (4.6 units). A constant threat from afar, De Colo delivered his best semi-final game against Slovenia, finishing the game’s top scorer with 25 points, while accumulating 7 assists. His heroic performance was much needed, as France only beat the Slovenes by one point.

Can also be added to this summary his beautiful score delivered in the final against the United States, during which he compiled 12 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and the best evaluation of the team (20). So many arguments which according to the journalist would make him the best French element in Tokyo, and which make him appear an excellent potential recruit for an NBA franchise this summer. This does not appear in the rear shots, however.

Exit Evan Fournier, Rudy Gobert or Nicolas Batum: Nando De Colo therefore inherits the virtual trophy for best French player of the 2020 Olympics. A reward that he would certainly exchange well with a gold medal.
