a third Stanley Cup for Colorado

Colorado won the 2021/22 NHL championship by beating two-time defending champion Tampa Bay 2-1 on Sunday in Act VI of the playoff final.

A goal scored in the 33rd minute by Finn Artturi Lehkonen (2-1) allowed the Avs to force the decision in this meeting. The Tampa Bay Lightning, who had discarded a first “title shot” in Game 5 in Denver, had however ideally started this game.

The Florida franchise had indeed opened the scoring after only 3’48 » of play on a success from its captain Steven Stamkos. But Colorado turned things around in the second period, superstar Nathan MacKinnon scoring the tying goal in the 22nd minute thanks to a “one timer” on a delayed penalty.

Three rookies of the year

Already titled in 1996 – for its first season after moving from Quebec – and in 2001 – with Friborg goalkeeper David Aebischer in its workforce -, the Avalanche thus put an end to a 21-year drought. His coronation comes five years after Colorado finished the regular season with the league’s worst record.
