A test at Homestead at the end of August for Johnson

At the end of August, Jimmie Johnson will perform his first oval test at Homestead with Indianapolis in sight and his 500 Miles.

For his first season in IndyCar, Jimmie Johnson has chosen not to participate in oval racing by focusing only on road and city races. Romain Grosjean adopted the same approach at the start of the season, but finally indicated that he will participate in the Gateway event.

For Jimmie Johnson, it will not be. The seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion will not add the Gateway event to his 2021 schedule. However, at the end of August Jimmie Johnson will travel to Homestead for a test on the mile-and-a-half oval in to participate in tire tests at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway next fall. Thus, on this occasion he will be able to carry out his Rookie Orientation Program to participate in the 2022 edition of the Indianapolis 500 Miles.

We are planning a test at Homestead in August. The latest news is that it should be done at the end of August.

The Chip Ganassi Racing driver has had a complicated first season with only one top 20 to his name in seven races, a nineteenth place at Barber at the start of the season.

Regularly opposed to taking part in an IndyCar oval race, Jimmie Johnson put forward his fears related to the safety of single-seaters. However, the accident of his teammate Álex Palou on the first day of qualifying for the 2021 500 Miles caused him to shift his position.

He was doing fine. It was an important step for me.
