A Spanish striker at Messi’s table

Having become an understudy at Barça but still an attacking leader in the Spanish selection, Ferran Torres has received a lot of advice from Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Before Spain’s two matches against Switzerland and Portugal in the Nations League on Saturday and next Tuesday, brand focuses on Ferran Torres. Quite paradoxically, the 22-year-old striker lost his place in the starting XI of the FC Barcelona this season, while he remains the essential striker of La Roja de Luis Enrique. He will be at the World Cup in Qatar.

Will Ferran Torres become a world star worthy of being in the top 10 of the Ballon d’Or? Unlikely. In the meantime, he sat down at the table of Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. Literally. During his last vacation in Ibiza, the player who passed through Manchester City said hello to the two South American friends. The latter invited him to their table, to give him advice during a long conversation.

Obviously, Messi and Suarez know the Blaugrana environment by heart as well as the current coach, Xavi Hernandez. They are respectively top scorer and 3rd top scorer in the history of the Catalan club (672 goals for the Argentinian, 198 for the Uruguayan).

Even though he has talent, Torres is still far from becoming a goalscoring machine at FCB. In the two winger positions, he suffers from the comparison with the hard-hitting Ousmane Dembélé, Raphinha and Ansu Fati, while, as Robert Lewandowski’s back-up, Memphis Depay seems more dangerous than him.
