A revolution in NFL jersey numbers? | Touchdown Actu (NFL Actu)

During the offseason, NFL teams can progress rule changes, which are then voted on by all owners. On the Kansas City side, the Chiefs have made a proposal that could revolutionize the visual aspect of games.
Currently, the choice of numbers on the jerseys is very codified. Quarterbacks, kickers and punters are notably the only ones who can choose between 1 and 9.
With the Chiefs’ proposal, the riders (other than Taysom Hill and Lamar Jackson) would access these numbers, for example. As in the university ranks, the possibilities would become much wider. This would also please some university players, who could keep their number. The proposal could also have been motivated by the fact that the Chiefs have 10 shirts retired, and the possibilities are starting to dwindle.
It will take the approval of 24 owners out of 32 for this proposal to be validated at the next meeting of the owners.
Numbering proposed by the Chiefs
Quarterbacks, kickers, punters: 1-19
Running backs, fullbacks, tight ends, receivers: 1–49 and 80-89
Offensive line: 50-79
Defensive line: 50–79 and 90–99
Linebackers: 1–59 and 90–99
Defensive backs: 1–49
