A record line-up with Peugeot and Penske for 2022

For its tenth anniversary and tenth season, the FIA WEC can pride itself on presenting an enticing line-up. The World Endurance Championship unveiled the entry list for the year 2022 on Wednesday, with a total of 39 competitors which is quite simply a record. They will be 6 in Hypercar, 15 in LMP2, 5 in LMGTE Pro and 13 in LMGTE Am.

The premier class has in its ranks the two GR010 Hybrids from Toyota Gazoo Racing as well as a Glickenhaus 007 LMH, and the Alpine A480 ex-LMP1 like last year. A list to which is added, as expected, the engagement of Peugeot with its 9X8, which will bear the numbers 93 and 94. The French manufacturer has yet to confirm the date on which it will actually enter competition, and the ‘we know that the Lion does not rule out missing the first round at Sebring, and even the 24 Hours of Le Mans if he considers that his Hypercar is not sufficiently ready.

The LMP2 category is once again giving pride of place to Oreca, since the French manufacturer will supply the entire field where we find in particular Team Penske, for a big comeback in Europe with a crew where we will see in particular at work veteran Emmanuel Collard, associated with Dane cameron and Felipe nasr. The latter will thus be able to prepare perfectly for his future with Porsche in LMDh, the German manufacturer being associated for this future program with … Penske.

In addition to the drivers announced in recent days by some teams, and those who will be announced later, we note the arrival in WEC of the young Lilou Wadoux, chosen by Richard Mille Racing.

In LMGTE Pro, the arrival of Corvette in WEC with a single C8.R is confirmed, which will spice up the duel between the two Ferraris AF Corse and the two Porsche 911 RSRs. Finally, the LMGTE Am brings together 13 cars including three Aston Martin Vantage.

« The FIA Endurance Championship has grown a lot! », observes Pierre Fillon, president of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest. « To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the WEC, the starting grid reveals an unparalleled number of competitors. The challenges and novelties of this year are major, both in sporting terms and in the continuity of our CSR strategy. As such, the introduction of a 100% renewable biofuel, the Excellium Racing 100 developed by our partner TotalEnergies, is an achievement of which we are particularly proud. I wish all the competitors, entered in Hypercar, LMP2, GTE, an excellent season and look forward to seeing them next Friday March 18 for the start of the 1000 Miles of Sebring. «
